Case Study - Health Promotion Board

Background
Established in 2001, the Health Promotion Board (HPB) has a vision to build a nation of fit and healthy Singaporeans. To achieve this, HPB assumes the role of the main driver for national health promotion and disease prevention programmes. HPB implements programmes that reach out to the population, specifically children, adults and the elderly.

Challenges and Solutions

Information architecture
Usability was a prime concern. With over 250,000 links and a complex relational structure of content, one of the greatest challenges for this project was to develop layouts and navigation structures that ensured every page of the site was easily accessible to both novice and expert users.

WPH specifically looked at how to improve the content management system, e-services, usability and functionality, communications and design.

Content Management System
What is really impressive about the site is the content management and internal communication tools which sit behind the visual display. The Content Management System (CMS) includes a full user and publishing rights system with a preview version of the site to allow approval of pages before they go live.  It also provides basic workflow, image management and site management functions for administrators.

The site makes extensive use of dynamic navigation systems, providing access to a wealth of associated and related content. This is achieved by simply categorizing the content within the underlying CMS. This method of classification provides for powerful and dynamic cross-referencing of site content allowing information to be accessed in numerous ways as well as allowing the same content to be reproduced in multiple forms and formats with almost minimal human intervention.

Partnership in Facilitating HPB's Expanding Service Offerings.
WPH worked extensively with the client to fully plan and scope the website build, particularly taking into account current and future business activities, target audiences and ease-of-use for HPB staff to administer website content themselves.

Over time we have also helped design and create a series of HPB microsites. Teencentral offers interactive activities to teenager. Quit4life is an smoking cessation centre for the distribution of anti-smoking education materials, packages, and other products.
